You may smell it in paradise, but probably in a perfume first. The tropical woody scent of ocimene is also citrusy, having floral undertones and being present in various fruits and plants such as kumquat, mango, mint, lavender, bergamot, and yes – cannabis.

Ocimene has been shown to reduce inflammation, especially when acting synergistically with other anti-inflammatory terpenes. However, what makes this terpene stand out is its ability to act as an antiviral compound, potentially helping to treat viral respiratory infections. Another attribute of this terpene is its potential anti-fungal effects, specifically with the Candida which can sometimes cause oral thrush, showing as a coated tongue.

If you’re interested in finding a cannabis strain with higher traces of ocimene, look no further than Arjan’s Haze #3 or Himalayan Gold.

Unfortunately, this terpene is easy to vaporize, having a boiling point of 149 degrees Fahrenheit, so don’t plan on cooking with it unless you’re only going to be making some warm tea.

As always, remember that terpenes affect each of us differently depending on our body chemistry and what compounds are present they can act synergistically with.
